An Aussie customer claimed his iPhone Duo broke after being opened less than 20 times, and he said there was no visible damage before the crack.
He went to the Apple Store and they replaced his broken iPhone Duo. Apple may be collecting all the defective iPhones Duos to do an analysis on the failures and this would help to make improvements in the manufacturing to prevent these issues.

There are several images of broken displays of demo units in China where the iPhone Duo launched hours before the US. For most of these images, the back story is unknown. It is also possible there was user damage. A couple of folks who received an iPhone Duo early to review it did folding tests and did not see any issues. This sample is very small.
Given how many people are getting an iPhone Duo today, some failures were to be expected. It is unknown how bad this is or whether we will see a trend in complaints. Hinge failures due to normal use should be covered by the one year warranty. Customers who received an iPhone Duo today have a two week return window.
